Ingredients and Substitutions

caramel topping – you can either use a store bought caramel, make your own or melt down actual caramels for this recipe.

apple pie spice – if you don’t have apple pie spice, that’s ok. Simply add 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon all spice and 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg and you’ll have the basic flavors. You can also make your own apple pie spice to keep for when you need it.

Storage Tips for Hot Caramel Apple Drink

  • Short-term storage (up to 2 days): Let your drink cool slightly, then transfer it to an airtight container, like a mason jar or travel mug. Plastic containers are not ideal as they can leach chemicals into your drink at high temperatures. Store in the refrigerator.
  • Long-term storage (up to a year): If you plan to store your drink for longer than a couple of days, it’s best to freeze it in portions. Let the drink cool completely, then transfer it to freezer-safe containers, leaving about 2 inches of headspace at the top for expansion during freezing.

Here are some additional tips:

  • Separate the components: If your drink has multiple components, like whipped cream or apple slices, store them separately and add them back to the drink when you reheat it.
  • Reheating: When reheating your drink, do so gently over low heat on the stovetop or in a microwave-safe container. You can also use a slow cooker on a low setting.
  • Fresh is best: Keep in mind that reheated drinks won’t taste exactly like fresh ones. The flavor and texture may degrade slightly over time.
