A favorite tailgating recipe, these Air Fryer Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls are both easy and delicious.

Always a huge hit at any gameday event, stuffed with steak, cheese, onions, peppers and mushrooms.

Or leave out the veggies and just do steak and cheese all the way.

My favorite part about gameday is all of the great appetizers and snacks that are served.

Yes, for me, it’s all about the food.

One of our favorite quick and easy snacks for gameday is these Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls.

We love to serve it with different dips, our favorite being a spicy cheese dip.

And… that’s the glory of cheese dip.

It goes great with these Air Fryer Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls, but if you make enough, you can serve it with chips too.

These go fast, so be sure and make up a bunch.

What kind of steak should I use for Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls?

I usually use rib-eye or top round.

I slice the raw beef very thin.

Some meat departments will do it for you, if you ask them.

When ready to cook, lightly oil a cast iron skillet and cook the beef over medium, until a temperature of 145 degrees with a thermometer.

I love using the ThermoPop from ThermoWorks.

It has a rotating display which is GREAT for so many things.

This thermometer (and two others) I use almost every single day in the kitchen.

From candy making, to jellies and jams.

Meat, chicken, seafood and even broths and soups.

Can I use different meat to make Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls?

If you want to save a couple of dollars, you can totally do with a thinner, cheaper cut of meat.

It can often be tougher, so when I do that, I usually slow cook the steak in a crock pot or in the oven until it basically falls apart.

You can buy a lot of meat that way and you’ll make lots of egg rolls.

So it is a more cost productive way to make them for a crowd.

Since all Air Fryers are different, when testing this recipe, start the cooking time a little lower until you know how long it needs.

I need 6 minutes total, and I flip at the 3 minute mark.

What kind of cheese should I use for Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls?

Provolone is the cheese of choice.

I live in St. Louis, so we also have a cheese called Provel and that’s what I usually use, but if I can’t get it, provolone is also the #1 choice.

Before I assemble these, I usually saute some onions, peppers and mushrooms in butter and add to about a half.

Then I insert a toothpick in the plain ones, so that people know they are plain.

You can do them however you want.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds cooked steak thinly sliced (see notes above for different types)
  • 1 onion thinly diced
  • 1 green bell pepper seeded and thinly diced
  • 1 cups chopped mushrooms
  • 1-2 tablespoons butter
  • 16 egg roll wrappers
  • 8 slices provolone cheese halved

Instructions

  • After cooking the steak, melt the butter in a cast iron skillet. Saute the onion, green peppers, and mushrooms until onions are translucent.
  • To assemble the egg rolls, lay them out on a flat surface. Scoop steak and veggies into the middle of the egg roll wrapper and place a slice of cheese over the top. Roll the egg roll wrapper over the meat, tucking in the sides and wetting down the final corner to adhere to the egg roll wrapper.
  • Place the egg rolls gently into the air fryer keeping a little space between them and being careful not to crowd them.
  • Spray the basket of the Air Fryer with a light coating of cooking spray. Brush a little oil on each side of all of the egg rolls.
  • Turn your air fryer onto 390 for 4 minutes. Flip the egg rolls, and then turn the air fryer to 390 again and cook for an additional 4 minutes. If they don’t seem done, add two minutes and do it one last time.
  • Serve hot!
