Mmm… yes, just yes. These Hot Chocolate Brownies with Marshmallow Swirl were the perfect ending to a crazy, hectic week and tasted just the way I envisioned them.
All I wanted was a fun little treat to end the week, and instead what I got was addicting bites of chocolaty goodness. I am not complaining, I ate several.
After making our hot chocolate cupcakes last week, we decided to see if we could find a Hot Chocolate Brownie recipe, and indeed, we did find one.
We tweaked it a bit to suit our own taste, but it was totally worth it. And I give you… Hot Chocolate Brownies with Marshmallow.

Thanks for another super creative recipe Nicole! Everyday I am waiting to see what is next and these treats never disappoint! Would have never thought of hot chocolate brownies, but why not? They look scrumptious. Love that swirl.
SO YUMMMMYYYY! chocolate and marshmallows mmmmmm
Do you have to have chocolate chips?
I suppose you don’t, but it will change the consistancy of the final product a bit. However, Still will taste great, and look great I’m sure.
What size pan? 8×8 or 9×9?
I usually use an 8×8 pan, but for the most part, you can use either. It would only be about 2-3 minutes difference which I already account for in cooking temperature since all ovens are different anyway and everyone uses different pans.
Does “cocoa” mean cocoa powder or hot cocoa mix?
Hi Kimberly, cocoa powder. They are called Hot Chocolate Cupcakes but they require traditional baking products. 🙂 Hope you enjoy them!
Thank you! I’m making them for my hubby’s birthday tomorrow.
Can I replace chocolate chips with walnuts?
Sure you can replace the chocolate chips with walnuts, however they will have a different flavor than the “hot chocolate” flavor we were going for. I bet they will be delicious!
SO YUMMMMYYYY! chocolate and marshmallows mmmmmm
2 years late, ill be shocked if you reply .
What do you think adding a bit of philadelphia to the marshmallow would do? I really like the taste of the 2 mixed, but Im worried the philadelphia would have a bad reaction after baking
Hi Inga,
I have never done this before, so I actually can’t say how it would work. However, I have baked cream cheese before in a brownie, and it seems ok. My only thought is the texture of the swirls might be different since it’s a different mix, but I’d like to think it would still taste good.
Check back and let me know how it goes.
Great recipe. Very easy. I used a 9×9 because i love the crispie edges. I used melted Shortening rather than butter.
Do they freeze okay???
I haven’t tried freezing them before. I’ve had others tell me they have done it with success but nothing lasts that long around here for me to test. haha
Let me know if it works out for you! <3
