I love nourishing my family and Schnucks helps me do that anytime but most especially at the holidays.

We make this Beef and Butternut Squash at the holidays, because it’s hearty and nourishing and warms from the inside out. Plus it can even use leftover vegetables if you’d like.

Schnucks is by far my favorite place to shop for the best groceries and prices. I can get everything I need to nourish my family this season, while saving me both time and money. There’s not much that is better than that.

And it can be changed up to fit your families tastes. Just hop on over to the produce department and pick up butternut squash, potatoes, onions, garlic, celery and honestly, any other vegetable you’d like to add. Look for Schnucks’ great low prices and add what you think would be wonderful in this hearty stew.

Don’t forget the fresh herbs, though you can also use dried. (Fresh just tastes better and more distinct). Don’t forget a package of stew beef from the meat department, you could also substitute pork if you prefer.

One more stop in the Schnucks bakery to grab some bread bowls, because stew isn’t the same without some great crusty bread to eat it with and a bread bowl means less dishes!

Holiday Kitchen Life Hack

I love life hacks. Don’t you? They make life simpler and are often mind blowing in their usefulness. While this is not a new idea, it is one we have implemented for years at holiday time.

Simply taking some of your favorite herbs and spices for this time of year, you can make your house smell delicious for pennies. It doesn’t look very pretty in the pot, but the WHOLE house should smell amazing in absolutely no time at all.

When I do this in the morning, my kids often get up looking to see what I am cooking because they can smell it all the way in their room.

Holiday Kitchen Life Hack - Simmering Spices on the stove
It may not look very pretty but I can assure you my house smells delicious and all ready for the holidays!

Boil some water on the stove. Toss in a few herbs and spices and reduce heat to a simmer.

Allow to simmer on stove and your home will smell wonderful.

You can re-use by placing in a sealed container in the refrigerator and re-heating within a week or so.

While most people choose the “sweeter” smelling spices like nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves, you can also use savory herbs and spices. A mix of garlic and oregano will make people hungry and ready for meal time plus still smells SO good, like you’re cooking some amazing meal. The possibilities are endless and Schnucks makes it easy with their great selection of herbs and spices.

Caution: You will need to add more water every 30 minutes or so, or you will scorch your pan. Set a timer so you don’t forget and do not leave your home with the stove on. Ever.
