Best Mardi Gras Recipes

Whether you’re looking for sweet, or savory – there are Mardi Gras recipes to cover everything! Mardi Gras appetizers, desserts even main dishes!

Very Brief History of Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday is a fun and festive Carnival event, celebrated yearly in Louisiana (and other places). Mardi Gras translates to Fat Tuesday in French.

The first Mardi Gras parade held in New Orleans is recorded to have taken place in 1837. But celebrating, started a bit before then. You can learn more here

Mardi Gras is celebrated the day before Ash Wednesday, 47 days before Easter and 2 days after Shrove Sunday.

Why do they call it “Fat Tuesday”?

The event revolves around the practice of the last night of eating rich, fatty foods before the ritual Lent season, fasting for 40 days.

So obviously, any holiday celebrating food and eating food, is right up our ally here on Daily Dish Recipes. We absolutely love both traditional and classic Mardi Gras recipes, but we also enjoy more unique Mardi Gras recipes too.

You will find a great mix of both right here.
