Alright, let’s get mixing! Here are some tips and tricks for making awesome rum cocktails with fruit juices:
Choose the Right Rum
You can choose whatever type of rum you want for this cocktail – we chose grapefruit rum, but it would also be amazing with spiced rum or a dark rum.
- White rum: This is a good all-around choice, especially for lighter, more refreshing drinks.
- Dark rum: This has a richer, more intense flavor that’s great for cocktails with bolder flavors.
- Spiced rum: This adds some extra spice and warmth to your drinks.
Juice It Up!
We know it’s a pain to juice fruit fresh, but it always makes a better cocktail. You absolutely do not have to.
- Fresh is best: If you can, use freshly squeezed juice. It tastes way better than the stuff from a carton.
- Mix and match: Don’t be afraid to experiment with different juice combinations! Pineapple, orange, mango, and guava all go great with this grapefruit rum cocktail.
Kick it Up a Notch
- Simple syrup: This is just sugar and water, and it’s an easy way to sweeten your cocktails if you don’t feel its sweet enough.
- Liqueurs: Add a splash of something like orange liqueur or coconut cream liqueur for some extra flavor.
- Fresh herbs: A sprig of mint or a few basil leaves can add a fresh, aromatic touch to this delicious tropical rum cocktail.
Chill Out
- Use lots of ice: This will keep your drink nice and cold. It just feels much more refreshing that way.
- Chill your glasses: Pop your glasses in the freezer for a few minutes before you make your drinks.
Shake or Stir?
- Shake: The best way to make this cocktail is to shake it without ice in a cocktail shaker.
- Stir: If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, simply stir well.
Most importantly: Have fun and experiment! Try different combinations of rum, juices, and other ingredients to find your favorite flavors.
