Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries hulled and halved
  • ½ cup granulated sugar to taste
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice about 6-7 lemons
  • 5 cups water
  • ice cubes
  • garnish Optional garnishes: sliced strawberries, lemon wedges

Instructions

  • Muddle the strawberries: In a large pitcher, muddle the halved strawberries with a muddler or the back of a spoon until they release their juices.
  • Make the simple syrup: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar and 1 cup of water. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely, creating a simple syrup. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  • Combine everything: Pour the cooled simple syrup, lemon juice, and remaining 4 cups of water into the pitcher with the muddled strawberries. Stir well to combine.
  • Strain (optional): If you prefer a smoother lemonade, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any strawberry seeds.
  • Chill and serve: Add ice cubes to the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Serve and enjoy! Garnish with sliced strawberries and lemon wedges for an extra touch of summer flair.
