Packing for a trip to the pool or beach can be simple if you keep a few things in mind. It’s not just about the entertainment, towel and sunscreen. Making sure you’re prepared for anything can take you from pool/beach to anywhere you might need to go, easily. I’ll show what’s in my summer bag for the pool or beach, to make it easier.
It’s hot. In fact, tomorrow it’s suppposed to be 101 degrees! That means for us, we spend a lot of time at the pool to cool off in this hot weather. Being the mom of many, there have been plenty of times we have been happily swimming away only to get a call that I must go here or there to pick a kid up, drop a kid off, attend an event and so on. Overtime, I’ve figured out that if I have a fully stocked pool or beach bag, I will be ready for anything.
So how do I go from the pool to any event?
What’s in my Summer Bag for the Pool or Beach?
1. Summer Tote
First, your bag matters. A larger bag is going to hold a whole lot of stuff. I purchased this one because I loved the pattern and it’s HUGE – a nice oversized beach bag! I can use it at the pool, the beach, to travel with, take to the park. Whatever. It only has a single pocket inside, so if pockets are essential for you to stay organized, then opt for one with pockets. Instead, I use little makeup pouches to hold different items in my bag, so it’s not a problem. I know what’s in each little pouch so I don’t spend precious time when I’m in a rush, looking for things.
2. Lotion/Deodorant/Body Spray
The key to not looking (or smelling) like you came straight from the pool, is to choose an after sun, hydrating lotion that smells good. I keep a bottle of after sun hydrating lotion, body spray and deodorant in my bag which are great for masking that distinctive chlorine smell. Stuff to smell great is what’s in my summer bag!It should be in yours!
3. Hair Essentials
My brush is a detangling brush which helps get those nasty tangles, but I also opted for one that helps dry my hair a little faster. I always rinse my hair and I carry travel shampoo and conditioner for a quick shower before I head out. But sometimes I don’t have a lot of time, so a couple of swipes through my hair with the brush, and then I can whip it up in a clip or a poytail. Easy and looks good. Don’t forget hair ties, ponytail holders, clips and bobby pins. I keep all this contained in a little pouch inside my bag. Hair essentials are what’s in my summer bag! They should be in yours!
This isn’t essential to going from pool to an event but it’s in my bag, so I’m showing you. Entertainment sure can make long days at the pool a little more relaxing for mom, while the kids are splashing about. I always have a magazine, music and a good book to read. Of couse I also have my cell phone should I choose to do a little blogging or surfing the net. Fun entertainment is what’s in my summer bag! It should be in yours!
5. Clear Eyes® Pure Relief™
This product is a lifesaver for me. It’s a new line of preservative free eye drops in a multi dose bottle. It’s the first of it’s kind available over-the-counter at US retail stores. The bottle has a built-in purifying filter that keeps the bacteria out, so there is no need for preservatives.
It’s totally an essential in my summer bag! Here’s why. After I get out of the pool, we’re talking red, dry, irritated eyes. A drop in each eye, and I can go anywhere and I don’t look like I came from the pool and I’m not battling irritated eyes.
We also do a whole lot of hiking in the summer, so I always make sure I carry a bottle or two with me, because it totally helps keep my eyes from getting too irritated or feeling gritty. It’s actually a great value too, since there are over 220 drops for less than the price of a pack of 60 single use vials. One bottle, equals less things to carry and a product that works!
I got mine from Walmart. They were in the pharmacy area in the Eye and Ear Care Area. Want to save a little money? I’ve got a coupon you can use to purchase your own!
Clear Eyes® Pure Relief™ for Dry Eyes and Clear Eyes® Pure Relief™ Multi Symptom.
There are two formulas available. I actually carry both with me, because you never really know what you could be faced with when you’re spending a ton of time outdoors or when you’re at the pool or beach all day.
Clear Eyes® for Dry Eyes
Clear Eyes® for Dry Eyes is preservative free, for dry eyes. Did you know doctors recommend preservative free drops? Better for your eyes. These drops provide up to 12 hours of soothing comfort. There are more than 240 drops in each bottle, which is wonderful because it means I don’t have to keep replacing the bottle so fast. It has a patented built-in purifying filter that keeps out bacteria and a one drop control soft-squeeze bottle. It is formulated with Sodium Hyalouronate, a form of Hyaluranic Acid, for advanced comfort. I love having this product on hand, anytime my eyes are dry. I don’t just keep one in my summer bag, but also in my purse because you never know when you need them.
Clear Eyes® Multi Symptom
Clear Eyes® Multi Symptom is preservative free, and helps relieve red, burning, itchy, dry, irritated, gritty, or watery eyes. All the things I am faced with after a long day at the pool or the beach. The drops provide up to 12 hours of soothing comfort and have over 220 drops in each bottle. Another fantastic value, which means I don’t have to keep replacing them, because they last a long time and contain plenty! 6. Comfortable shoes.
I happen to love flip flops, so I just choose a pair that coordinates with the extra clothes I always pack in my summer bag too. I bring an extra pair of shoes, because I’m usually wearing something that doesn’t match whatever I’m leaving in. Sometimes the shoes aren’t flip flops, but dressier if I know I have an event that requires a dressier look. Comfy shoes are what’s in my summer bag! They should be in yours!
7. First Aid Kit
Stubbed toe? Scraped knee? Headache? Accidents happen at the pool, so having a first aid kit is pretty important. I always make sure it’s filled up and restocked before I head out, and I always make sure I include a couple of packets of aspirin or ibuprofin too. A first aid kit is what’s in my summer bag! It should be in yours!
8. Sun Screen/SPF products
Sun screen is really important too. Not only do I have sun screen, I always bring moisturizing lip balm with an SPF, because I want to protect my lips too. If you think about it, you might also want to pack some bug spray. I usually keep a can in my bag because I never know when I’m going to need it. SPF products are what’s in my summer bag! They should be in yours!
I always pack a water bottle everywhere I go. I drink a lot of water. Don’t forget to pack some snacks too, because if you have to go from pool/beach to somewhere else in a jiffy, there might not be time to stop to grab a bite. Being prepared with a light snack keeps the kids from asking for treats and keeps you from sitting in a meeting or waiting at an appointment hungry. Snacks and Drinks are what’s in my summer bag! They should be in yours!
10. Sun Accessories
I always bring a hat and sunglasses for the pool, but sometimes you can coordinate these into your look for when you leave too. Make sure you find things that are comfortable and neutral enough to go with anything. It goes without saying, don’t forget your bathing suit and a towel either! Beach and Pool accessories are what’s in my summer bag! They should be in yours!
