We’re known around these parts for being pretty frugal in our cooking if we can.

We have a great big family and feeding a large family means adjusting recipes and costs to fit those needs.

This ramen noodle salad recipe is one of the cheapest meals you can make. You can eat it for lunch or dinner, as a side dish or whatever.

Here is one of our favorite ramen noodle salad recipes that costs only a few dollars.

I have several, so I will put them up periodically.

What do you need for Ramen Noodle Salad

ramen noodles – the packets are best and we traditionally use chicken flavored but I am pretty certain any flavor you love would be good.

celery – don’t skip this if you can help it. It adds a lot of really great flavor and crunch to this salad.

red onion – if you only have a white or yellow onion, it’s fine but something about the flavor of a red onion makes us reach for that one more often.

green bell pepper – as I typed green bell pepper, I realized that I’m not certain that it would matter if you used red, orange or yellow here. Just add some bell pepper. It’s good!

green peas – So I usually use a can of green peas, but if you are going to use frozen, make sure they are thawed well in advance of this.

mayonnaise – by mayonnaise, I mean mayonnaise. Not miracle whip which is technically salad dressing and NOT mayonnaise.

But hey, if you love it, might be okay here but I don’t love it and for some reason it sounds really gross to me with this recipe.

My favorite is Duke’s but we use Hellman’s or store brand all the time.

How do you make Ramen Noodle Salad?

Making Ramen Noodle Salad is SO easy.

Simply boil you water and break your noodles up into the boiling water. Basically follow the package directions as far as length of time.

Once your noodles are done, drain the water. Rinse the noodles with cold water until the noodles are cold.

In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise and the chicken seasoning mix from the ramen packets.

In another bowl, combine the noodles, celery, onion, pepper and peas.

Mix the mayonnaise mixture into the noodle bowl and mix until well coated.

Cover the bowl, and put in the refrigerator to chill for at least 45 minutes to an hour.

Serve cold.

It works great as a main dish or a side dish and is another perfect picnic food!

Trust me, nobody will know how easy and cheap it was to make!

And honestly, even if they do – they will be so happy with the flavor and results, they won’t care!

  1. I don’t eat mayonnaise. I was thinking of using, for the dressing, some asian sesame salad dressing that I have. Do you think that would be okay?

    1. I think that would be perfectly acceptable. To be honest, this recipe can be made a lot of different ways, so I think you can change up dressings and do your own thing. Let me know how it turns out with Asian sesame salad dressing.
