It’s that time once again, time for the holiday’s and favorite family traditions.
Let’s talk about Holiday Traditions
Holiday Traditions are a huge part of the holidays for our family. In our family, food has always been a big part of our holiday celebrations. This makes it part of our holiday traditions year after year – from cookie baking, to warm cinnamon cider to big family meals, and even on to our food gift giving.
From the twinkling lights and beautiful decor, to spending time with my family and friends, it’s all important to me. I love decorating for the holidays and wrapping gifts beautifully and slipping them under the tree. There are so many things to love and cherish and remember at this time of year. From each special ornament I unwrap from the box, each special decoration that has a place on our mantle or shelves and even the new items we add to our collections year after year. Each has a memory, and becomes part of our family tradition.
Personal Holiday Traditions
I love learning about others family traditions, so I thought I’d share a few of ours.
Before Christmas, each member of the household gets a new ornament for the tree. Then when we put up the tree, usually the day of, or the day after Thanksgiving (another family tradition), we hang the new ornaments with the older ornaments. Each family member hangs their own ornaments on the tree. Our family ornaments get divided between the oldest children to hang.
At Christmas my children open two presents on Christmas Eve; a pair of new pajamas in which they can wear that night, and one other item. The item is usually a book, stuffed animal, movie or something else that is exclusive to their taste.
Hickory Farms Holiday Traditions
Another distinct memory (of course revolving around food – because I am a food blogger after all) is the big Hickory Farms basket we had every year. Every delicious bite from anything in that basket was divine. From cheese, to salami’s, and all sorts of other goodies, depending on the basket we selected.
I have kept that tradition up with my own kids, when we visit the Hickory Farms store inevitably opening up in the local mall. We painstakingly browse all the wonderful treats and decide which basket to bring home. And then, usually on Christmas Eve, we serve all the wonderful goodies found inside.
