Homemade Apple Sauce

How in the world is it September? Do I always start my Secret Recipe Club posts out with that question regarding the month we are in? Time just flies and here we’ve already been back to school for several weeks. It’s also almost Fall which is my very favorite time of year. This puts me in an excellent mood.

I want to apologize in advance for my photos for this post. The afternoon I decided to make this recipe, was the day before we were leaving town and I decided to make it for our road trip – great snack idea. When I finally got it cooled and ready to photograph it was 8pm and there was no lighting left and I didn’t have time to drag out all my equipment before everyone had to go to bed. So these are what I got. I will probably reshoot these at some point, but if you want to see beautiful photos of the apple sauce, be sure and visit the blog I was assigned!

This month, I was assigned The Smoothie Lover written by Josefine, an 18 year old foodie living just outside Copenhagen.  Not only is she an incredibly talented recipe developer, her photography skills are AMAZING. Like as in, I was drooling and it wasn’t just over all her food. Please if there is anything you do, check out her recipe index and all of her great food photography, because it’s incredible.

I really wanted to make something that screamed Fall, because I am so ready. I combed her blog and have a huge list of things I’d like to try including my favorite picks: Pea and Edamame Dip, Autumn Pumpkin Soup with Chili & Ginger, and her Chia Pudding with Maple Syrup, Roasted Almonds and Dried Figs, which is apparently her favorite so I’m definitely making it.

Since we were leaving the next morning and we wanted something we could maybe snack on, I wound up picking her Homemade Apple Sauce. Partly because it sounds delicious and partly because I live in Missouri and we have an abundance of apples right now, and I had a lot in my house waiting to be used for something. This was just perfect. Plus the small jars I used were the perfect serving size and I doubled the recipe to make enough for everyone.

I don’t know why people purchase apple sauce at the local store. Her recipe is perfect. I will admit to sprinkling in a couple of shakes of apple pie spice just to give it a little extra flavor but otherwise I kept it exactly as her’s is written. It is simply delicious and sooooo easy!

  1. What beautiful homemade apple sauce! Part of it is your lovely photo, but also apple sauce is such a great comfort food that just looking at it makes me breathe easier and calm down. You’re making me happy that apple season is just around the corner here in the mid-Atlantic US.
