What is clean eating? It’s almost easier to say what Clean Eating isn’t. It isn’t a diet. But many people confuse it as one. Sure, eating clean can help you to lose weight, but Clean Eating is a lifestyle. It’s a way of life. And it does take commitment.
One thing that defines clean eating, is eliminating most processed foods from your diet, and focus on natural, whole foods. It also means emphasizing the elimination of most animal fats and fast food. It is not a vegetarian diet. You don’t have to eat rabbit food.
It’s a healthy choice, and typically involves cooking most meals with raw, natural ingredients (the true definition of home-cooked). The reason for this is to eliminate any potential preservatives and processed foods, as well as added food dyes and other nasty garbage that seems to be put in all of our foods.
When I started dieting I tried all the fad diets at one time or another. Atkins, The South Beach diet, The Banana Diet, Weight Watchers and the Mediterranean Diet. But none of them were lasting, lifestyle changes I was comfortable making long term. Long term being defined as more than about 3-4 months. I was always hungry, craving salty then sweet and while I certainly lost weight, it wasn’t lasting. I usually wound up putting some if not most of the weight back on.
I decided that there were a few things I was definitely willing to give up. Processed foods, fast foods and most preservatives. This way of life, clean eating, is definitely the right path to take. It’s probably the healthiest “diet” out there, though I will continue to say that Clean Eating is NOT a diet at all, but a lifestyle.
I am changing this blog up quite a bit. I will keep all of the original recipes in place, so if you are looking for something you have tried, or wanted to try – it’s still there. The changes I am making are for the better. There will be healthier recipes – mostly just converted from old-style to new “clean” recipes. So watch for the “clean eating” tag, and join the journey with me. It’s been eye opening.
