You know with a family our size, keeping the house immaculate is definitely not possible. However, we strive to keep it as clean as we can. We assign chores to each person, each week and keep a chore chart so there is no question, who is doing what. One of the least favorite chores is dishes. We go through a lot of dishes in a day, and we were without a dishwasher for almost 2 years. Having a dishwasher again has been a HUGE blessing and discovering the best dishwasher detergent for the dishwasher was even better! It’s safe to say that keeping a chore chart and finding a dish detergent that works is the best thing that has happened to us lately.
Keeping a Chore Chart
Because our family is so big, we actually keep two on the refrigerator, so that the words can be written big and bold. This helps my kids visually see who is doing what. A chore chart is important because most kids learn visually and a reminder is always helpful. If you’re like our family and your chores change each week, sometimes it can be difficult to remember who is doing what and when. We knew the solution was a visual reminder, in the form of an actual chore chart.
We went out and bought two medium sized Dry Erase Boards. Nothing fancy, just something that would get the job done easily. Each person is assigned a different color so that even the youngest child can figure out which one is theirs. I simply made their first initial on the line and write their weekly chore next to it. Occasionally I will make notes in the side bar if there is something special that needs to be done, if we have a party or get together planned and something more is expected of them.
As soon as we implemented the chore chart, our home suddenly ran a bit smoother and there was less arguing and complaining because there was really no question who was doing what.
We also had to make a trip to the store to find cleaning supplies to make their jobs easier. I allowed them to choose products they thought would help each job run a little smoother from particular brooms and mops to cleaners that were made for each area of the house.
Once we had our dishwasher again, finding the best dishwasher detergent because a priority as well. I researched and researched and came to the conclusion that Finish dishwasher detergent seemed to be the best value. Not only does it have a fantastic reputation, but it’s inexpensive and seemed to get the job done.
Finding the best dishwasher detergent
We recently moved so our old Walmart isn’t the same as the new one. The new one just underwent a huge remodeling and went from a simple Walmart to a Super Walmart with a full grocery store. We were already used to that with our hold one, so for months we’ve been driving back and forth to the older one. But not anymore, this time we were able to head to our local Walmart which just so happens to be across the street from our home. With the grocery part of Walmart finally complete and open, there is a whole re-discovery process that is going on as we learn where things are. It wasn’t hard to find the dishwasher detergent however, as it is in an aisle all it’s own overflowing with every cleaning product imaginable.
We grabbed a few Finish products and also one other type, because I really wanted to try the Finish Challenge. I wanted to see if Finish really was better. I like science projects and while this wasn’t exactly a science project it was certainly a test of sorts that was pretty fun to try.
So once we got home we used the other product to run a load of dishes through the dishwasher. When everything was done drying, I didn’t really notice anything and wondered what miracle Finish dish detergent would perform differently.
Boy was I pleasantly surprised.
As soon as the second load of dishes was finished, it was abundantly clear which product was the more superior. No question at all.
Just look at the photo I took of the Finish product and the other leading dish detergent. The shine, no spots, no residue. I was completely shocked. Until I did the second load, I didn’t notice how unclear the one glass looked. But if you set them next to each other, there is no comparison. Finish is definitely the better product. I began taking dishes and glasses out of the cabinets to compare them next to the glasses done with Finish and they were all hazy with what looks like a film. It’s interesting how I never noticed until I really did a comparison. You should take the Finish Challenge in your home, you might be truly surprised.
