My pets are 100% part of my family. They go places with us, we go to events just for them, we make time for them and most of all we include them in as many family activities as possible.
When I realized how close it was to Pookie’s 1st birthday, I ordered some fun things to celebrate and we decided to throw her a little birthday party. I don’t she cared that it was only our two cats Cici and Willow, and then our other dog, Lulu who showed up. She got to be queen for the day.
My baby girl is one today. However you’d never know it. She is just as much a puppy as she was from the day we got her. Pookie is such a fantastic companion dog. She doesn’t leave my side, plays with any toy you’ll give her (and sometimes Carsyn’s socks which we didn’t give her). She will play fetch for hours. Seriously.
And she even brings the toys back every single time. She’s such a good girl.
I realize she looks ridiculous here. But we had to commemorate her 1st birthday somehow and we wanted to make the day all about her. She got to go out with us, have special homemade birthday treats, got all sorts of presents and yes, even dress up.
I am not sure she got the memo about how cute she looked. But she was such a good sport wearing this stuff and humoring her mama.
We got Pookie when she was 9 1/2 months old, so we’ve only had her a short time but it feels like a lifetime already. She brings so much joy to my life, she is the best snuggler and she sleeps under the covers with me every night.
I’m not real sure why her previous owners decided they couldn’t keep her anymore, but I’m grateful for her every single day. She came into my life at just the right moment and has provided me with so much unconditional love and laughter.
And if there’s anything you can take away from this post, I hope it’s to cherish your pets. Celebrate them. And laugh. Laugh a lot. I know we did that day and the pics still make me giggle.
