Romance writing isn’t even the slightest bit new to me as an adult. It was there all during my childhood too.
I can remember being quite young and still understanding the need we as humans, have for love and human companionship. I was also well aware of the need for a happy ending. People just don’t like endings that aren’t happy. Okay, so sometimes a sad ending works too, as long as the ending comes with a resolution of some kind. But I digress…
Even the dirty bits were fascinating to me, even as young as twelve. Might have even been earlier, but I can’t remember. So it really came as no surprise when I began sharing with friends that I was writing romantic fiction. It was actually rather comical, but now it is what it is.
I didn’t choose Romance though. It chose me. I’ve written adult fiction, I’ve written young adult and still am, but one day this story was just inside and it wanted to be written. So I sat down to write it, and it turned a little steamy and erotic and suddenly, I was writing more than just a typical fictional love story. I was writing romance.
And now, the ideas and manuscripts just keep piling up because it never feels like I can stop. I write all the time, just ask my kids. They’ll tell you. And this year for NaNoWriMo will be my first romance genre novel written during a NaNoWriMo November. I’m hoping it’s just the first of many.
What are you writing this year?
