I know there are so many different reasons that someone decides to utilize Twitter. It isn’t for everybody either – I have many friends that swear by Facebook, and I’m not a big fan most of the time. The biggest reason for using Twitter for many is to advertise, but the next biggest reason to be on Twitter is to network.
But beyond the obvious business related perks of Twitter, is anyone on Twitter just because its an enjoyable place to be? For me, that is definitely one of the reasons that I use it. I also like the different platforms you can use to access Twitter, like Tweet Deck. It adds something to the feeling of it all. It makes following and contributing to conversations easier.
But I wonder, do you ever comment on something that someone has said, and have them not reply? And then perhaps you try again, or you ask a specific question or whatever, and there is silence. No response.
Explain to me what those people are looking for? Are they just looking for a place to sit and spew out status updates periodically that we are all supposed to enjoy reading? Or are they at all interested in open communication – you know – like between themselves and another living breathing human (or only particular living breathing humans)? This has been my main annoyance about Twitter – the fact that many never say anything or don’t answer when you say something to them, or seem uninterested in having any kind of deep or meaningful conversation (even though they might suggest that is what they are looking for in their bio or through their tweets).
So, curious – why are you on Twitter?
Quick addition: I have made a lot of great friends on twitter. I also really enjoy the networking and conversations I have with other writers who are struggling through like I am. I just wondered about the ones who never say much or that you never see reply to anyone. That is all.
