The weather this evening was perfect for the setting up for camp. But first we hung out at the hotel for awhile. When we were finally ready to head over to the encampment, while Vanessa, Jessica and I waited by the door to leave, we looked back into the room and found these four “getting ready”. This scene made me laugh – can you tell I’m the mom of teenagers?
Okay, when they were finally done, we headed out to Fort Massac to help set up and eat dinner. We found our site pretty quickly since our trailer was already there.
Then it was time to get to work. The kids have been taught how to set the tents up, since they usually stay in them. Ironically, only one of the kids helping is actually STAYING in the tent this weekend.
Setting up the boys tent.
After many mishaps and some funny moments, they did finally get both tents up. This is the girls and the boys tents.
But we aren’t done yet.
Then it was time to start the campfire and get it going.
Brielle staring at the fire, deep in thought, and kind of exhausted from setting up tents.
Each child in the corps. has a container to keep all the separate accessories for their uniform, and then a garment bag to hold the actual uniform. They bring a sleeping bag and pillow for sleeping. They are also responsible for their instrument/flag.
Now, it’s time to get the fly up. How many kids DOES it take to put up a fly?
Then it was time to relax, roast hot dogs, make s’mores and just hang out and have a good time.
Then it was time to head back to the hotel, because we have to be back there bright and early tomorrow morning. Much better more exciting photos will be coming tomorrow. Goodnight!
