These Air Fryer Sausage Meatballs make a great appetizer or addition to a pasta dish. We love making them up and eating them with pancakes and scrambled eggs for breakfast. But honestly they are a versatile addition to lots of meals!

Sausage Balls

These aren’t just great for an appetizer, they are fantastic for a breakfast side item or just as a pop in your mouth snack.

Why We Love This Recipe

  • Super easy recipe
  • We make ours in the Air Fryer, but you can totally make them on the stovetop in a cast iron pan or pop in the oven.
  • Full of savory flavor and can be changed up by adding ingredients, herbs or seasonings.

What do I use these sausage meatballs for?

  • Serve them on a pretty platter on top of fresh lettuce for a party. Add a toothpick or cocktail fork for easy eating.
  • Serve with breakfast, next to scrambled eggs, pancakes, waffles or french toast. Also easy for a brunch.
  • Make the balls smaller and add to pasta, soups, rice and casseroles.
  • Make them alone for a great after school snack. We serve with vegetable sticks or fresh fruit.

How many sausage meatballs does this recipe make?

A lot. It’s honestly going to depend on how big or how small you make the sausage balls.

If you’re making large sausage balls, you’ll only get about 8-10.

If you aim for medium you can get up to 15-20.

And if you aim for a decent small size (average size) meatballs for pasta or appetizers, you can get up to 20-30.

They will go fast!

Can I freeze these?

If you are just using them for breakfast, you can freeze the leftovers and microwave them for 2 minutes or so when you’re ready to eat them.

We also make up a double batch and flash freeze them on a cookie sheet until frozen.

Then we put them in a plastic zip top bag and store for future meals. You can microwave them or heat them in a sauce on the stove to thaw or simply thaw in the refrigerator.

Yum! I won’t lie, we make tons of them up ahead of time and freeze them.

The kids grab 1 or 2 in the morning with their breakfast and they love them.

Another trick, I use herbs and sometimes minced garlic and minced onion in them. Especially when serving for an appetizer just to make them a little different and more flavorful.

I also tend to roll them into smaller balls for an appetizer and put a toothpick in them for serving. I hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

Ingredients

  • 1 pounds pork sausage your choice – hot, spicy, mild, etc.
  • 10 oz. cheddar cheese grated
  • 2 cups Bisquick mix

Instructions

  • In your stand mixer, combine all of the ingredients. Mix well.
  • Roll them into small balls.

For the Air Fryer

  • Preheat air fryer to 400 degrees F. In a single layer, place the sausage meatballs into the air fryer in a single layer. After the air fryer is preheated, turn it down to 380 degrees F, and cook meatballs for approx. 12-14 minutes or until browned. Pork should be cooked to an internal temperature of 165 degrees F.

For the Oven

  • Place them on an ungreased cookie sheet, they expand a little bit so just keep at least ¼” to ½” in between them. Bake 15 to 20 minutes at 350 degrees.
