Product Review: Black and Decker Home 12 Cup Programmable Coffeemaker – Model CM5050

Product Review: Black and Decker Home 12 Cup Programmable Coffeemaker - Model CM5050I love my Keurig. I won’t lie. Absolutely adore both of them. I have the Keurig Elite K-Cup and the Keurig Vue. But sometimes, when I’m working a full day of work, I don’t have time to jump up and brew a cup whenever I want.  The Keurig brews ridiculously fast and I love that, but sometimes I just need an entire pot. Face it, I’m an addict. Must have coffee. Cannot survive without coffee.

It was time to do something, and I needed a coffee pot to sit next to my Keurigs on the counter for those days I needed a whole pot. The day I decided to get the new coffee maker, I acted as quickly as I could. I went armed with very little information so I really did feel blind. I looked at every model, every setting, every perk, every look – it was overwhelming.

I only really had a few simple requests.  I wanted one that did not require the use of those stupid paper white coffee filters. I really hate those. I wanted one that was programmable and that wouldn’t shut off after 30 minutes. Believe it or not, that’s not an easy feature to find, or at least wasn’t when I was looking. And finally, I wanted one that was easy to clean. That’s ALL I was really asking for. Is that too much? It felt like it for a bit. But then I feasted my eyes on this baby.

Black and Decker Home 12 Cup Programmable Coffeemaker – Model CM5050

I found the Black and Decker 12 cup Programmable Coffemaker. I brought it home after thinking about it for about fifteen minutes while I finished shopping for other stuff. Call it an impulse buy if you will. But, I’m so thankful I did. While I do use my Keurigs daily, having a coffee maker that makes an entire pot at a time is a lifesaver sometimes. Yes, my counter now holds three coffee makers. Keurig K-Cup, Keurig Vue and now this beautiful baby, the Black and Decker Home 12 Cup Programmable Coffeemaker.

I opened up my box and was thrilled to see that it was just a simple plug-in coffee maker and that it needed no assembly. Not only does it not need the stupid white paper coffee filters, the removable coffee filter it does come with, is perfect and very easy to use (and clean).

The coffeemaker is:

  • programmable (delayed brewing)
  • allows for strength adjustment (regular/strong)
  • allows you to brew between 1-4 cups of coffee OR an entire pot (I have never done the 1-4 cup thing though, so I cannot speak about that, I use my Keurigs for that)
  • keeps the coffee hot for up to 2 hours (this feature is VERY hard to find in coffee makers!)
  • comes with a sneak a cup feature (it pauses momentarily for you to remove the carafe and pour yourself a cup of coffee while still brewing)
  • and is truly very simple to clean, and the removable parts are dishwasher safe.

I love this coffee maker and it is affordable and brews a delicious pot of coffee! Do you own the Black and Decker 12 cup Programmable Coffemaker? Do you love it?

Updated: This review for the Black and Decker 12 cup Programmable Coffemaker was originally written on January 8, 2010. Today is June 10, 2014 and I still cannot say anything bad about the coffee maker. I have had no issues, it brews a delicious pot of coffee, and it so super easy to clean and use. That’s 4 years with this baby, and it’s still going strong.
