Losing Weight and Calorie Counting

Counting calories is only one method or additional method of tracking weight loss efforts when you are dieting. Many people begin counting calories when they want to lose weight, but then continue to keep that lifestyle up. I don’t know where I fall yet, but I will tell you that I am absolutely in love with the method.

Counting calories makes you much more aware of what is going into your mouth every single time you eat. There are dozens of websites that allow you to track your calories and food, but my favorite is My Fitness Pal (MFP). Since I began doing this about a month ago, it has been a truly eye opening experience. I never realized how much I was eating (or how little on some days). I never realized how much sugar I ate, or sodium I consumed or Fat or … well I’m sure you get the point. I’ve also never been a die hard label reader. I read labels, don’t get me wrong – but most of the time, I just pick up the product if I want it. Regardless of what’s inside the bottle, box or package.

That has really changed in the past month. I’ve lost a total of 6lbs by doing little more than just watching my eating habits. I still enjoy a treat here or there. In fact, now that I am dieting, and counting calories, I often get things I might not have otherwise eaten. I also never ate breakfast before. Or snacked throughout the day. I would eat a really small lunch sometime after noon and then a huge dinner with my family every night.

That has all changed. Now I’m eating six times a day, much smaller meals. I try to stick to about 300 calories/meal, but sometimes it goes over. I never get discouraged, I just make changes somewhere else.

I’m sort of at a stand still with the weight loss though. I started Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred earlier this week and wow. That totally kicked my butt (see previous post). But I feel stronger, and more energized, and I love it. It takes a mere 20 minutes a day and I feel better, look better and clothes are beginning to fit more they way they should. I’m excited to get to a point where I can do a comparison photo! LOL That’s still a bit away, but I’m in this to win this – I won’t give up this time.

If you are doing anything right now consistently to lose weight, share below and let us know what you’re doing. Let’s all cheer each other on!
