Family Traditions are a huge part of the holidays for our family. And what I remember most from my childhood, and hope to pass along to my own children is most of our food traditions. In fairness, I’m a food blogger, so food has always played a big part in life for me, but in memories, most definitely. In our family, food has always been a big part of our holiday celebrations. From special appetizers, to desserts and all the fixings in between, my greatest holiday memories surround time with loved ones around the family table.
My memories and traditions at holiday time are so incredibly important, that even when life changes a bit, I strive to keep things the same for my children (albeit they are teenagers now) every year. From the twinkling lights and beautiful decor, to spending time with my family and friends, it’s all important. I love decorating for the holidays and wrapping gifts beautifully and slipping them under the tree. There are so many things to love and cherish and remember at this time of year.
We have loads of traditions each year, from filling the stockings, to opening two gifts on Christmas Eve; always a pair of new PJ’s and one other item (typically a book, stuffed animal or ornament for the tree). We sit around the tree snacking on wonderful holiday appetizers, desserts and hot drinks and we open our two gifts and laugh and create new memories. Then Christmas morning everyone has new PJ’s for pictures, and that’s when we open the rest. Later in the day we go to my mom’s house and once again indulge in wonderful treats and open even more presents. We’ve been doing it so long I can’t remember not doing it. And I hope we are still doing it a long time from now.
Hickory Farms Memories
Another distinct memory (of course revolving around food – ha!) is the big Hickory Farms basket we had every year. Every delicious bite from anything in that basket was divine. And it was special, because it only happened one time a year. I have kept that tradition up with my own kids, when we visit the Hickory Farms store inevitably opening up in the local mall. We painstakingly browse all the wonderful treats and decide which basket to bring home. And then, usually on Christmas Eve, we serve all the wonderful goodies found inside.
Holiday Traditions surround Hickory Farms. For more than 60 years Hickory Farms gifts have been a classic holiday tradition that brings family and friends together. Many Americans have a distinct memory of Hickory Farms at their holiday gatherings, and I’m one of them. Hickory Farms is very proud to be a part of those nostalgic moments and continues to focus on and celebrate its long heritage of tradition and authentic holiday memories. They not only imbrace passing down traditions through generations of families, but also creating new traditions and sharing them with loved ones.
