Great Frugal Uses For Tennis Balls

What Can I do with all these tennis balls?

Most families have tennis balls somewhere around the home, I know we do and if that’s the case probably there are others out there. We aren’t even a tennis family, and we still have tons.  If you don’t have tennis balls all over the place in your home, consider this for a moment. Tennis balls are seriously inexpensive, and make great toys for kids and pets alike. But in addition to pets and children, tennis balls are useful for many different purposes around the home too.

Tennis Balls For Pets

Do your pets like to play ball? One of my favorite uses for tennis balls is for dogs to chase and cats to bat around the house. They are a cheap toy that can provide hours of entertainment for your pets. We have a hedgehog and even the hedgehog likes to bat a tennis ball around his cage. I would imagine this would be the same for mice, hamsters and the link.

Tennis Balls For Humans

This seems obvious, really. Children can use them to play catch, or any other game that requires a small ball. In addition, adults can use them in other ways beyond just the game of tennis. For great alternative to traditional exercise, try holding a tennis ball in your hand and gently squeezing it. They are great for strengthening muscles in your fingers and hands, which is great for those of us on the computer all day.

Take a tennis ball and cut it in half. These halves make great jar openers for sticky bottles and jars. Just place on top of a hard to open lid, grip, squeeze and turn. It helps tremendously. Also, when changing a hot light bulb, a tennis ball half helps grip the hot light bulb, making changing it, much easier!

Tennis Balls For Laundry

What? Yep. You can pop a tennis ball in the dryer when you are drying a comforter or down filled item to help it retain it’s normal shape. It’s also great for drying things a little faster, we use them in there when we have towels because it helps get the water out of the towel. I’m not going into the science of it all, but it does work.

Tennis Balls For Massage

Another awesome use for the tennis ball is as a massager.  It’s easy and it feels great. One way to use them as a massager, is to run your sore and tired feet over a tennis ball. Just sit in a comfy chair with your legs planted on the ground, place the ball under your feet, and rock them back and forth, rolling the ball. Feels great! You can use a tennis ball for back massages (someone else has to help). But legs and arms and really any place you have sore muscles. The cushion and softness of the ball is what makes them work so well.

Do you have any more fun and useful ways to use a tennis ball? I’d love to hear about them!
