Extreme couponers go to great lengths to get the best deal around. Extreme couponers also go to great lengths to snag coupons at any cost. This Denton, Texas woman is no exception. Sybil Hobson, 37, of Denton, Texas was arrested on June 27, 2011 and charged with fraudulent destruction or removal or concealment of a writing for stealing coupon inserts out of newspapers. Turns out that charge is a Class A misdemeanor. This chick may face up to one year in jail and a $4000 fine, all for the love of coupons and deals. Wonder if using coupons has managed to even save her the $4000 she is probably going to have to pay?
Apparently, Sybil would pay the money to get one newspaper, then open up the vending machine and pull all the plastic coupon packets out of every single paper in the machine. The owner of the machines hired someone to watch because the papers cannot be sold without the coupon inserts. So the guy watched her steal coupon inserts from three different vending machines. He then called police and confronted her, asking her to stay put and telling her the police were on the way.
She did not stick around and instead climbed into her Black SUV and high tailed it back home. Thankfully he had the woman’s description, her license plate number and a description of the vehicle. Police launched an investigation and Sybil Hobson was arrested.
Quite frankly, this is the type of extreme couponer that makes my head hurt. It is NOT okay to STEAL coupons.
