I love quick and easy dinners, and these Easy Weeknight Philly Cheese Steaks take less than 15 minutes from start to finish.

Love being able to throw together a quick meal on weeknights!

It also requires fewer ingredients than a normal Philly cheesesteak which is also appealing.

That in my book, is the makings for the perfect weeknight meal.

Easy. Quick. Delicious.

This is a huge hit with the kids too.

It’s a bit of a twist on a classic Philly Cheese Steak. Rather than using actual steak, you simply use hamburger meat, and we use lean hamburger beef.

It helps that my son works in the meat dept. at our local store, because he always knows when things are on sale, or manager’s special.

Regardless, this is a fairly inexpensive meal, that packs a lot of flavor.

Do you have any short cuts for making traditional or classic foods?

Ingredients

  • olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic clo minced (or use garlic powder)
  • 1 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup onion chopped
  • 1 cup green pepper seeded and chopped
  • salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon all purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup provolone cheese we used thinly sliced provolone and just allowed it to melt into the sauce
  • sauteed mushrooms optional
  • 6 hamburger buns

Instructions

  • In a skillet, over medium heat, brown your ground beef with a little bit of olive oil and your minced garlic. Break the beef up into smaller chunks.
  • Once the meat is browned, toss in the green bell pepper and the onion. Cook for 4 minutes or until onions become tender. Drain all the liquid out.
  • Season the meat with a little salt and/or pepper.
  • In a saucepan over medium-high heat, melt the butter. Stir in the flour and cook for one minute, stirring continuously. Using a fork, whisk in the milk and cook for about 2-3 more minutes or until the flour/milk mixture is thickened and bubbling.
  • Reduce heat to low, and stir in the cheese until it is completely melted into the sauce.
  • I usually add a sprinkle or two of garlic salt to give it a little more flavor, but this is completely optional.
  • Scoop the meat onto each bun and then ladle on the cheese sauce. Add some sauteed mushrooms is you desire (I desired) and pop the top of the bun on and eat! Enjoy!
