Updated 2013: Keep an eye out for Super Triple Coupon Week. It only happens a very small handful of times throughout the year. But coupons .75 or lower will be tripled. This does not really constitute extreme couponing though. The rule is (my son a Schnucks Cashier, verified this for me) that they will triple coupons .75 or less, however if you use a .75 coupon on an item that is $1.19 you will get the item for free but there is no roll over money.
Ah Schnucks – the Supermarket I grew up shopping with my mom and brother in. Also where I had my 2nd job ever. Couponing at Schnucks is okay, but it all depends on your store. Not all Schnucks are the same, which is NOT a good thing.
I have a Schnucks store within walking distance to my house. They do not advertise that they double coupons (up to .40), though I now know they do even with no advertising. About 2 miles from my house in either direction are two Schnucks stores that DO advertise in huge, gigantic letters on their windows, that they double coupons, so that’s where I usually go. Mostly because one of them is nearby our Super Walmart, Aldi’s and Shop ‘N Save so it’s easy to jump from store to store to take advantage of the best deals. That’s what us frugal big families do. haha
My Schnucks, the ones in the St. Louis Metro area, only double up to .40 though. At least that is something, but it’s still annoying. About a 45 minute drive my house is another Schnucks store that still doubles up to .50, however, the limit is 15 coupons. That’s fine if I break it up and have my kids check out in different aisles, except it limits my stockpiling capabilities unless I want 112 of the same item. That’s worth it, if I have good coupons.
Most Schnucks do have a limit on the number of coupons you can use in 1 transaction. There is also a limit on how many coupons you can use that double. Apparently the magic number at St. Louis Metro stores is 15. So plan to do several transactions across stores to get the best deal (and not to annoy the check out person).
As of today’s date, this is the info I could find on Schnucks stores regarding their coupon policies. Oh, and they do not offer a printable coupon policy – also annoying. I’m sure this is because they change it up whenever something like Extreme Couponing comes along (one episode, the girl Amy was shopping at a Schnucks. She’s a nutball. She bought 93 boxes of croutons. As someone who is not a huge fan of croutons, was 93 boxes really necessary? Could you have perhaps limited it to … I don’t know – 25 boxes?
Most Schnucks stores double coupons. Most actually have a limit on how many, however.
