I am a coffee drinker and have been since I was 13 years old. In fact, it’s hard for me to get the day started without it. It helps clear my head and get me to focus on the tasks that are staring me down and if I ever run out, watch out because I’m a bear! One of my favorite coffee’s is Cameron’s Coffee and while this is a post about that, it’s also the story of how I became obsessed with coffee.
When I was 13, my parents went out of town for a week and left us with some older woman who was hired to stay with us. I don’t remember how my parents knew her, or even IF they knew her before they hired her to babysit us, but what I do remember is that she was older than my grandma, very sweet, very patient and a great cook.
The first night she stayed with us, she made a homemade apple pie. She told us we couldn’t have any until the next day. My younger brother was 9 at the time.
When I got up for school the next morning, at my place at the table, was a piping hot slice of apple pie. I thought, whoa this woman is amazing. My mother would have NEVER let me eat pie for breakfast. In fact, sweets were a rarity if at all. But it got better. As I sat down to devour this huge slice of apple pie, she set a piping hot cup of coffee in front of me. I stared at it for a moment. Then I looked up at her wide eyed and surprised.
“How do you take it?” she asked me.
I continued to stare at her. Then I looked back at the coffee. I wanted to act sophisticated like I drank coffee all the time. In truth, up until that point, I’d snuck a cup or two at my grandma’s but my parents didn’t drink coffee so I didn’t have a lot of opportunities to know how I liked it.
My grandma liked cream and sugar, so I simply said “with cream and sugar”. Without hesitation, the woman picked the coffee back up, filled it to the rim with cream, added a bunch of sugar and brought it back to me.
To this day, I remember nothing had ever tasted so perfect. Hot slice of apple pie and a piping hot cup of coffee, loaded with cream and sugar. I was pretty sure I’d died and gone to heaven. And that began my love affair with coffee. That morning, in a kitchen in the house I grew up in, with a woman I didn’t know who I swore was a saint.
Twenty eight years later, I am just as much a coffee junkie as I was back then, and I still basically take it the same way. I love flavored coffee too, and when I discovered Cameron’s Coffee and all the great flavors, I was hooked. Plus they work right in my Keurig which is a staple in my kitchen.
As a true coffee connoisseur, I always choose quality coffee with a rich, delicious taste, and Cameron’s Coffee always delivers. It allows me to use my single serve coffee machine without sacrificing the slightest bit of flavor, and without the plastic taste or more waste of plastic capsules! Why? Because Cameron’s Coffee features a soft-bottom filter instead of a plastic cup so its brewed through an actual filter. They are BPA free and polystyrene free, have less plastic waste, no plastic taste, not brewed through a plastic cup. You can truly enjoy a cup of coffee without the whole burnt-plastic aftertaste. Pure and simple and delicious!
